NIA Launches Mahayag Dam Rehabilitation Project with Pre-Construction Conference

October 23, 2024 - Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has officially launched the reconstruction and rehabilitation project for the Mahayag Dam, an essential irrigation facility located in Barangay Salug Daku, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur. The initiative began with a Pre-Construction Conference held on October 23, which included an ocular survey at the dam site and a conference at the NIA-9 Regional Office in Balintawak, Pagadian City.

The pre-construction activities aimed to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the dam’s current condition, laying the groundwork for a smooth and effective rehabilitation process. The project is expected to boost agricultural productivity in the region, supporting local farmers by enhancing the dam’s capacity and reliability for irrigation.

Key representatives from NIA, local government units, engineering teams, and other stakeholders participated in the conference, where they discussed timelines, technical specifications, and logistical requirements for the project. This collaborative approach reflects NIA’s commitment to improving irrigation infrastructure through partnerships that foster both sustainable water management and agricultural growth.

Once completed, the rehabilitated Mahayag Dam is anticipated to serve an expanded area, providing reliable irrigation to the farmlands in the municipality and benefiting local communities that depend on agriculture. The initiative is seen as a significant step toward reinforcing food security and supporting local livelihoods in Zamboanga del Sur.

With NIA’s continued support, the Mahayag Dam Rehabilitation Project represents an investment in the future of regional agriculture, addressing both immediate needs and long-term sustainability.
